Known as one of the hardest-rocking country duos around with a reputation for a no-holds-barred approach to country music, Montgomery Gentry was founded more than 20 years ago by Kentucky natives Eddie Montgomery and Troy Gentry. Together they crafted numerous singles that charted on the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart, including the No. 1 hits “If You Ever Stop Loving Me,” “Something to Be Proud Of,” “Lucky Man,” “Back When I Knew It All” and “Roll with Me.” Now, by tragic circumstance, Montgomery carries on as a solo artist holding the promise the duo made to one another long ago to keep the music of Montgomery Gentry alive. Gentry died in a helicopter crash in 2017, and Montgomery says his friend and bandmate inspired many of the songs on his first solo album, “Ain’t No Closing Me Down,” an album that’s both a tribute and a promise to keep going.

Tapers notes: This is not normally my type of show, but my roommate is a big fan so I went with her. It ended up being a lot of fun, Eddie puts on a great show. I began the show in the front row, and as people started coming up to the front of the stage, it got to be too much to handle. I moved during "If You Ever Stop Loving Me", so the sound changes after that. It still sounds pretty decent, a little more distant, but less crowd noise.
